Horn Pond
Hit Horn Pond early today looking for big bass. I just walked around the trail and fished in the various stops along the way with a 7 inch soft swim bait rigged on a jighead. Not much action, but got a 3 pounder at the boat ramp by the lagoon (the smaller pond across from Horn).
Also, had some clear water, so I was sight fishing for bass in the lagoon, when I could've sworn I saw what I thought was a 15 pound carp! Anyone know what the deal is with this? I've heard rumors of carp being in Horn and the lagoon, but have never actually caught one. And since Horn Pond in connected to the lagoon, they could inhabit the entire place.
There are carp, you can use canned corn to catch them pretty easily.
I didn't mean bass can't get over 9 lbs in MA, of course they can and I've seen 7, 8' s and 9' s caught. Just not in Horn. We were talking about Horn Pond specifically I thought, but sorry for confusion . I've been fishing there for over 35 years and never ever heard of a 9 pounder being caught. Again, no pics, no state pin, no mention in any tackle shops throughout the area. Just decided to keep it to yourselves? Just finding it hard to believe, but I guess it's possible?

I fish horn pond on my boat once a week. and the biggest fish there i have caught was 4+ pounds (I have pics on my page to prove it). I know where are big fat carp in there but BASS wise…. prlly biggest is 6-7 pounds not 9.
no offense but still not buying it. Big fish in Horn, sure, but to say 9's are caught and have no proof at all. Seems when bigfoot and 9 pounders show up, cameras go blurry or left at home etc etc. It is trout stocked so no doubt some big ones in there. The Cape and other places seldom produce 9 lb fish. I've been around horn for over 30 years and just hear stories and rumors and never any proof. But hey I could be wrong.
No worries maybe next April well get together and go. I like to be a believer lol
Yeah, sorry, i wasn't trying to sound like a jerk. I do not have any pics of the 9 (I still lose sleep wishing I had a camera on me lol), as I was just swinging by after being in the neighborhood and didn't have a camera, just a tackle box and rod, but the guy who caught it sure does (if I could only run into him now!). But if you try fishing the boat ramp between Horn and the Lagoon in april, you can target big fish by using big swimbaits or live bait. Its a big lake that has everything needed for a few bass to grow huge- just got to catch them.
First of all I didn't say I've never seen big bass or caught them. I said there is no big bass over 6 lbs in there. Pictures speak a thousand words bud. And I know if I caught a 9 lber or anyone around me did I'd have at least a couple pictures
I can assure you, there are bass up to at least nine pounds in Horn. Although I only recently moved here from NH, I have family in Woburn and have fished Horn hundreds of times. If you fish the prespawn in april, you can catch monster bass. I have seen a guy using live sunfish, who caught a 9 pounder, and I know it was 9 becuz it was weighed on my scale, which was certified by a sealer of weights. And if you dont think many bass get over 6, you have't seen BIG bass. There are plenty of spots in MA that have bass that big. The "MA pin fish" program produces bass from 7.5-10 every year.
