Ponkapoag Pond - Old Trips From June

First post here on MAFF. Love the site and check it out often. I am going to update a few old trips from Summer. After getting a canoe I went to Ponki twice in June. I read a few trips and was excited to get out on the water. The action was excellent, but it was almost all Pickeral. The bass to pickeral ratio was about 25:4 over the two trips. Both were 10am-3pm trips. I did catch two nice 3-4LB Largemouth bass. One each trip, but really had trouble getting the bass to bite. I was using a Rapala crankbait which the Pick's were loving. I did catch one of the larry's on a my biggest spinner bait I own in the middle of the pond(which was recomended on this site to not just fish the shoreline). No luck on any rubber worms(senko's included). I did use the ol' Red/White Daredevil for a few small bass. I didn't have much succes in the lily pad sections of the pond, but I didn't have any frogs for either trip. I am guessing skipping some frogs on the pads could lead to a few more bass. Overall I like the pond and caught some good size pick's, but would of like to gotten into a few more bass. My profile pick is one of the two solid bass from the trip.

  • At Ponki anything that looks like a baitfish will be snatched by a pickerel 9 times out of 10. I happen to like catching BIG pickerel so I often throw spinnerbaits there. But the guys that catch bass most consistently are throwing soft plastics.
